History of Sweetest Day

Sweetest Day began in 1922 when a dozen candy companies from Cleveland joined forces to make the Day sweeter for some city’s most vulnerable citizens. They distributed over 20,000 boxes to “newsboys and orphans,” old people, and the poor.

During the early days of talkies, movie stars adopted the idea. Starlets such as Theda Bara were known for being “bad girls” in film. She gave candy to those who attended movies and plays and to hospital patients.

The idea of Sweetest Day, a platform for spreading smiles and positive vibes, took root in the country’s middle section. The meaning of Sweetest Day was infused with old-fashioned Midwestern values such as honesty and caring about your neighbors in areas like Ohio, Indiana, and Michigan.
Sweetest Day has become almost similar with Valentine’s Day.

People give small gifts, flowers, trinkets, sweets, and love trinkets to the people they care about the most. Sweetest Day also focuses on giving support and material gifts to those in need. It’s a sweet reminder to give a little every Day.
